Overview

This was the final assignment for this class, Intro to Graphic Design, at UC Davis. The task was to select a recent event that had taken place within the past two years, at this time, 2017-2018. Based on posters already made for the event, we were supposed to create our own iterations.

Background

First, I had to choose an event. I love SFMoMA, and I try to visit every year. Their exhibitions are always so interesting, and I've always found their more interactive events amazing. Soundtracks (2017) was no exception. Not only was their publicity for the event so consistent, but I also had my own photos from the exhibition I could use. Their branding is so established, especially since the redesign in 2016, and I felt confident in pulling it off.

Preparation

I made 10 sketches for the event posters. All of them were well-liked by my professor, TA, and I, so I had trouble choosing just one to make digital versions of. I ended up making digital versions of almost all of them.

Production

I ended up choosing the red cloud iteration as my final print, though I really wanted to use the bright blue plated poster. Sadly, the print shop I went to had to replace their blue ink, so I couldn't use it. Additionally, the blue plated photo was taken from the SFMoMA website, as opposed to the red cloud picture I had taken myself, so it was very difficult to try and remove the pixelation that occurred with stretching the image.
